Meet the 6 convicts executed by Florida in 2023 #shorts
The fifth person to be put to death in the state this year is:
James Phillip Barnes.
Barnes, 61, was executed by lethal injection at 6:13 p.m. on August 3 at Florida State Prison in Starke.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed the con’s execution warrant in June, after he dropped all of his legal appeals and stated that he was ready to accept his fate after 16 years on death row.
Barnes, who was serving a life sentence for the strangulation of his wife Linda Barnes in 1997, admitted guilt for the 1988 murder of Patricia ‘Patsy’ Miller, a nurse who resided in an east Florida condominium.
The confession was submitted to the state prosecutor via letters that were received approximately eight years after his incarceration. Following the discovery of DNA evidence linking him to the murder, he was ultimately sentenced to death by a jury in 2007, and he entered a guilty plea.
In conclusion, the issue of the death penalty in Florida is a complex and deeply debated topic.
Whether one advocates for its abolition or supports its continued use, it is crucial to engage in informed discussions.
